Best's Fruit Farm: Route 46 at Russling Road: 3:00 PM TOUR ONLY.
Farmer Bob Best, Jr. will led tour participants on an educational walking tour of the farm,
orchards, cider mill and packing facilities. This multi-generational family farm has survived
and thrived throughout the years, and is renowned throughout the area for their peaches,
apples and cider, as well as their friendly service at the on-site farm store. The tour
will include some hilly terrain up to and into the apple and peach orchards. Visitors
should "hope for a sunny day and bring your camera, as the view of the
Musconetcong Valley from the top of the mountain is beautiful," according to
Best. Tours will also include peach and apple samples to taste!
Community Supported Garden at Genesis Farms, 41B Silver Lake Road, Blairstown:
The Community Supported Garden at Genesis Farms will feature cooking demonstrations, a educational presentation on honey bees, information on growing produce and running a year-round shareholder-supported CSA, as well as an educational hay ride around the fields. Join the gardeners as they explain the Biodynamic farming methods used here. Food samples will be available. Visitors will appreciate the beauty and the bounty of the land, and learn what it takes to grow food without chemical intervention.
Howling Wolf Farm, 25 Swayze Mill Road, Hope
Farmers Matt Pearson and Tara Bowers will lead educational, inspirational and enjoyable walking tours of this biodynamic farm, which features pastured animals, including: dairy cow, chicken, sheep and pig. This preserved farm is home to acres of organic vegetable, flower and herbs as well. Visitors will see the animals on pasture, and learn about the farming philosophy of a "full food farm," where a whole-farm ecosystem balances wild and cultivated farming, and provides as close to 100% of the food needs of the farm's members. The cows can be observed during morning milking in the first am time slot only.
Little Big Farm, 111 Heller Hill Road, Blairstown
Join horticultural expert Patti Doell and family on their 6-acre farm. The primary farming activity is to grow the most beautiful flower blooms possible without the use of pesticides or herbicides. This little farm features a lot of activity! Patti will show visitors exactly what can be accomplished on a small farm, including raising pigs and chickens as well as growing several acres of flowers for their cut flower bouquet business. Visitors will enjoy the beautiful surroundings of this classic homestead. In addition, visitors will learn first-hand how to craft specialty cut flower bouquets. Children can join in on the activities, too!
Race Farm, 87 Belcher Road, Blairstown
Farmer Doug Race and family will led educational, informative and fun walking tours around the farm. Learn all about the factors which affect this diverse farming operation, where vegetable crops, berries, fruit trees and perennials grow! Hear -directly from the farmer's perspective- what today's commercial agriculture is really like. Enjoy the beautiful views and picnic area, and relax a while at the farm. With pick-you-own produce, a fully stocked farm stand and made-on-site baked goods, visitors are sure to enjoy the experience!
