Film and Discussion: How to Let Go of the World
September 15, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Transition Newton, Skylands Sierra Club Group, and Foodshed Alliance will jointly host a free screening of Oscar-nominated director Josh Fox’s new film, “HOW TO LET GO OF THE WORLD and love all the things climate can’t change.”
Having achieved high acclaim for writing, producing and directing the anti-fracking documentary films Gasland and Gasland II, Josh Fox continues in this latest film investigating climate change in his deeply personal style, traveling to twelve countries on six continents. Fox acknowledges that it may be too late to stop some of the worst consequences of global warming, but focuses on that which is so deep within us no calamity can take it away. While still aiming to stop the mass build out of oil and gas infrastructure and expedite the adoption of renewable energy alternatives, Fox asks us to think about love, community and the goodness of humanity that climate can’t change.
HOW TO LET GO highlights the power that local communities have in determining their own climate and energy solutions democratically, and it is intended to provide inspiration for education and action at the local level. The film features many well-known environmental activists and authors. It was recently awarded the 2016 Documentary Award for Environmental Advocacy and has been invited to compete in numerous film festivals across the country.
The public is welcome to attend free of charge. Donations to support the sponsoring local organizations will be gratefully accepted.
