Yesterday was a good day, above average by today’s standards, for our LocalShare program. Normally, we glean surplus food from farms to donate to food pantries. In crisis times like these, this is what teamwork looks like to feed those in need:

  • Picked up beautiful bread from Windy Brow Farms.
  • Fresh food cleaned out at a resort that is closed – fresh veggies, fruit, milk, eggs and cheese.
  • With this food and produce rescued from grocery stores, we packed 70 bags for distribution.
  • Sparta Ecumenical Food Pantry prepared 90 bags of shelf-stable food which will be ready for curb pick up and delivery by Norwescap’s Pathways2Prosperity program.
  • Sparta Ecumenical Pantry continues to manage grocery-store food rescue. Zufall Health is organizing important strategy meetings with the Sussex County Hunger Coalition in partnership with the many human service partners and programs to identify gaps and coordinate services.
  • Andre’ and Tracey de Waal (Andre’s Lakeside Dining) chipped in using ingredients from ShopRite Partners in Caring program, and prepared 27 veggie lasagna trays which will be frozen and used as needed by families facing quarantine and illness.
  • Bags were delivered to three families in need. Sliced bread from a Weis Market rescue on Saturday was delivered to Manna House for bag lunches, thanks to a lovely couple in the chain of helpers.

Something different each day. Goodness among the madness.
