Floodplain Forestry: Restoring the Paulins Kill Floodplain
Floodplain restoration is essential for the health of the Paulins Kill River and the surrounding ecosystems. A well-functioning floodplain not only reduces erosion and mitigates flooding but also filters pollutants, improves water quality, and creates habitat for countless species of plants and animals. By restoring and maintaining the floodplain, we help keep the river healthy and resilient.
We invite you to join our efforts to restore the Paulins Kill floodplain through hands-on activities that make a lasting impact:
- Tree Stewardship: Care for young trees planted along the floodplain by watering, mulching, and ensuring their long-term health.
- Recycling and Reusing Shelter Tubes: Help collect, clean, and reuse protective tree tubes, reducing waste and supporting sustainability.
- Tree Identification: Learn to identify native species and assist with monitoring tree health and diversity in the floodplain.
