Overview

Sustainable Agriculture Enterprise (SAgE) logo.Rooting into the Foodshed Alliance’s mission to support regenerative farms, increase access to local, healthy food, and safeguard the environment for all members of our communities — we know that the future of our health, our land, and our communities depends on the viability of local farms.

Specifically designed to address one of the biggest challenges to New Jersey farmers—long-term access to affordable farmland — the Sustainable Agriculture Enterprise (SAgE) program offers long-term, affordable leases on preserved farmland to farmers who are committed to organic and regenerative growing practices.

SAgE Program’s Goals

Growing New Farms through Affordable, Long-Term Leases on Preserved Farmland

SAgE is a long-term land access program, focused on providing affordable land tenure opportunities to experienced farmers who are committed to growing organically. The main goals of this program are to:

  • increase the number of successful organic farm businesses in New Jersey;

  • which will enhance the organic stewardship of precious farmland,

  • empower the next generation of farmers,

  • and strengthen the overall food system of the Garden State.

Note: The SAgE Program is NOT an incubator farm program. This program is designed for farmers with experience who are seeking land to run an independent farm business.

The SAgE program currently has two sites in this statewide program: SAgE Sergeantsville and SAgE Andover. In addition, the Foodshed Alliance is working to identify and establish other SAgE sites in New Jersey to provide long-term affordable access to preserved farmland for organic and regenerative farm enterprises.  The Foodshed Alliance is always looking for more land to expand the program.

Interested Landowners or Land Conservancy Partners are encouraged to reach out to the SAgE Program Team to learn more about how to make your land available to emerging NJ farmers!
